1 – Lake Shawnee
Lake Shawnee is completely man made, and was first established in the 1930s. There, you can enjoy some relaxing boating, fishing, and even swimming. There are also some golf courses and tennis courts as well. Many families and couples even use the grounds to camp. You can also enjoy some truly fresh air here as you go on beautiful scenic walks through the many garden areas. There’s quite a lot to love in Lake Shawnee, so make sure you don’t miss it.
2 – Mulvane Art Museum
Topeka, KS’ Mulvane Art Museum is affiliated with Washburn University, and it’s been going strong since the 1920s. It has thousands of different pieces to admire, with a collection larger than almost any other on the western side of the Mississippi River. You’ll get a great sense for artists from all over the world and local Kansans alike. You can even try out some art classes or lectures while you’re there!
3 – Topeka Zoological Park
Located in Gage Park, Topeka Zoological Park is one of the most popular stops in the entire city. First established in the 1930s, the zoo is comprised of 80 acres of gorgeous land that currently houses various big cats, apes, bears, and more. You’ll even be able to experience the United States’ first indoor constructed tropical rain forest here. If you love animals, you absolutely need to make it a point to stop by!
